Foreigners or people with another skin-color live in nearly every country. I think prejudice and discrimination cause problems in society and also for the individuals. Policy is powerful enough to set different measures against prejudice and discrimination.
I want to prove this by looking at the dangers and disadvantages for society. The greatest problems occur in the cities, where many people live close together. Often there are slums in which only minorities or foreigners live. You can see it in America, where gang wars determine daily life of those people who live in ghettos. Another point is the two class society in which only the superior class has important rights. For example in the USA in the 1950’s to 1960’s only the white people were allowed to vote. But Martin Luther King and Malcom X, who enforced their rights against racism in different ways, caused a change in the society. Now the people in USA, regardless of which skin color, have the same rights.
I adduce evidence that the dangers and disadvantages for the individual are particular seriously. Every person should have the right to go out whenever or wherever he/she wants to, but in some areas you can’t go as a white person because only criminal blacks are there and control the area. But that’s a vicious circle, because blacks have no chance to rise in the white-people society and remain in their “ghettos”. The black people also have other massive problems in the daily life. For example in a coffee shop it’s not certain that you are served as a black man/woman. When an Afro American becomes a lawyer he is not automatically respected by others. Occasionally they have problems to find work particularly in “white areas”.
It will need a couple of years to solve this problem. So I list some possible measures against prejudice and discrimination. Only the state has enough power to help the people for a peaceful life without racism. So it’s useful to have black senators or even a black president. The best example is the USA, where the elected president Barack Obama is the first black man in this post. He can change the situation in consideration of racism in the USA. Although he has other problems to solve he should help the people who suffer from discrimination with the aid of political rehabilitation.
To conclude I think we should set goals against this problem in Austria as well, because racism is not only a result of different skin colors, but rather religious reasons. For a peaceful interaction between people it’s very important to respect the people how they are and judge only the character and not the appearance.

Why is it important to stay informed?


In a world of control information play a very important role. How relevant are this information for every single person and what are the different functions of TV, newspapers…. Does information help us in our daily life and why ought people to be informed?
At first I want to write about the social aspect. Under different living circumstances it’s unimportant to be informed about things which happened for example last week in Israel or who won the Oscar for best actor, but in schools or universities there are many discussions about political affairs or important events, because people need information for their studies. However, it seems that only meaningful information can help you, but information from popular news can also be very interesting. They can help you to communicate with other people without getting too personal. So they are useful for finding friends or other social contacts.
Secondly I want to show my own relation to information. For me it’s always important to stay informed. I need information in school where the teachers give you marks for your knowledge. And I often discuss with my immigrant friends about problems in their countries. Furthermore, I’m not only staying informed because of this. I want to know what’s going on in the world and probably I am able to reconsider doubtful opinions. More information means fewer misunderstandings. For instance almost all disputes arising are based on incorrect information.
Next I want to present how information influences democracy and how the countries use the TV, newspapers and other information sources for their intentions. Politicians use TV advertisements for example with elections. In the USA millions and millions of dollars were spent for the election campaign in 2008 and those who made the better campaign won. So in this case informing the citizens plays a very important role. Not only in democracies but even more in dictatorships information is essential for the leading groups. It is called Propaganda, if they spread rumors and tell lies. For instance the Nazis in Germany used their Propaganda to convince the people of their values and agitate them against minorities and undesirable foreigners.
To conclude, information is very important for communication, for yourself, and not at least for the democracy we live in, but we have to consider what is true and what is false. That means, you should try to obtain more than one opinion and create a logical result. So be aware of manipulation.

You can see movements on the graph, which describe the electricity tariff sine 1970 until 2006. In the beginning the price was at 6 cent/kWh and has and steady upward trend over the period. “Struggle for beauty”

In our time people should be judged by their achievements and not because of appearance. Nevertheless, more and more people, especially women tend to do all for their body, even plastic surgery. And teenagers, who are influenced by parents and idols, want the latest fashion or plastic surgeries at Christmas. Also the media influence the people strongly with the beautiful women and men you can see on the TV. You will never see an ugly person in commercials. Most people don’t know that you have to pay a price for such beauty. So there are advantages and disadvantages, which I want to present.

There are some important disadvantages to this struggle. At first there is the problem with the accidents, which happen frequently. Often scars remain from botched plastic surgery or you get other bodily harm. It can even lead to death. You shouldn’t undervalue this risk particularly if you get operated by a doctor you don’t know. But not only plastic surgeries contain problems. Also simple diets can lead to diseases and agony for example anorexia or bulimia. Particularly young female teenagers tend to get thinner. Often they don’t know that they have a serious problem with their body.

In contrast, the struggle for beauty has many advantages. The fact that you are accepted and integrated for instance at work is an important point for many people to take this struggle. But you also get more self confidence, which you need in competition at work or in personal things. So beauty affects job-related as well as personal success. In this regard beauty pays. Another point is that disfigurations can be removed. For example after a car accident often scars remain and plastic surgeries can help, so that the concerned person will be able to live a normal life. Also obese people have this problem. They are not appreciated in society although they have the same skills like thin people except in sport. They can benefit from diets or plastic surgeries so that they have no disadvantages in society.

In my point of view struggle of beauty is a complex of human society, but if you do it in a certain measure it’s not harmful. So the measure of practice and in which cases you use it is the important point.

To conclude, people shouldn’t exaggerate with the struggle of beauty because it’s not necessary. The most important thing is not the appearance but rather the personal qualities.

Country/city life

We life in a time were the most people move into the cities and hope to find a job or a better life than on the country. On the other hand the elder people, who live in town, complain about the stressful life and want to enjoy the peaceful life on country. What are the pro and cons of city and country life?

Primarily the advantage of city life is that you have a great choice, doesn’t matter if you are in the bakery, in the supermarket or by barber shops. That makes the life faster. You can reach everything you want in a few minutes, that’s good, but also the reason for the stress everyone is talking about. For younger sociable people the parties, the smoky air and the speedy life are no problem, but the pensioners for example have difficulties and spend all the time in their apartment. And the only time the city is reasonably calm you can’t spend the time outside, because of the violence in different areas.

On country life people have to accept more corporal work ass well as the investigation of more time for daily things like shopping. That poses a huge problem especially for older and single persons and makes the life burdensome. However, many people agree to the hard terms so that they can enjoy the fresh air and the wonderful scenery.

In my opinion the city offers more attractions for young people like me. I never lived in a city and would like to experience the life there. If I’m older I will prefer a house in a quiet and peaceful area, but in near future I want to discover the world and therefore I will travel to Vienna.

Altogether it’s a matter of opinion where you want to live. Everybody has his own advantages and disadvantages which he/she ought to use. But consider, anything what counts is that you are happy!

Paragraph: lifestyle

There are different aspects of my outlook on life.

I’m only 17 years old, but I have already made important decisions, but most of the decisions were made by other people in the childhood, upbringing, and education, such as my parents or teachers.

In puberty I discovered different perspectives of life and had made good and bad experiences with certain youth groups. Particularly the opinions of my friends became much more important for me. In secondary general school the peer groups exerted a huge pressure on the pupils. So these groups determined your lifestyle, but the elder you get the more you decide on your own. In most cases you join another lifestyle later. Only a minority stick to their outlook they had as teenagers. I for example was really committed to the Hip-Hop scene and their ideas, but now I see advantages and disadvantages in it. I don’t follow this interpretation of lifestyle any more.

Another very important point is music, but music is not only rhythm, beat or a voice. Music is lifestyle and an important part of identification of every youth group. My preferred kind of music was Hip-Hop and in my case music was - next to football - also an access to friendships. I liked the beats and was always looking forward to the latest tracks of my favourite artists. They were idols for my friends and me and we tried to imitate them in form of the same clothes and behaviour.

And so I come to the point of my lifestyle experiences.

The highlight of my lifestyle activities as a teenager was in elementary school where my friends and I were all dressed in similar clothes like every youth group such as the Punks, Goths or Emos. In the free time every group hang out in a certain place and nobody came into conflict with another group, but in school many confrontations took place between the “gangs”.

Not only friends, but also parents, examples and even teachers influence part of my lifestyle. In my opinion the upbringing is the most important factor for the future of a child. Obviously the efficiency of your parents’ style of education has such a great impression on your character that it will have a huge effect on your way of living your whole life. The teachers and the idols impact your life only in single parts, but parents accompany and influence you until you’re an independent adult.

My outlook on life will change with age and I hope in the right way.

Nowadays it’s normal to see a killer burning out eyeballs or cutting off fingers of someone. In previous decades it was even shocking when you see someone getting shot. Is such brutal entertainment necessary and what is the use of the brutality?

According to the scientist Michael Medved there are four lies of the producers of such violent films! First of all it is claimed that bloody films are only harmless entertainment. On the one hand most people are not influenced by such films, but on the other hand there is a small percentage, who imitates the killers of the movies and so a lie. Only one copycat killer is one too many. I completely agree with Michael Medved and his opinion about that lie, but the second lie which says that the people don’t want to watch horror and war movies I don’t agree with.

Movies can’t be the only reason why there is violence! The common belief is that there are three reasons why our society is so violent. The first one claims that violence is an instinct we have since we were born. The only way to stop the violence is to relieve it for instance by taking part in sport competitions. The second reason is that we learn violence through movies or in our environment. But these aggressions shouldn’t be acted out on human beings. And the third reason is frustration. The whole day we are influenced trifles which o on our nerves. Altogether we are surrounded by violence the whole day, however, the solution is the right way to act it out.

There always will be violence in our society, but our children ought to be protected as much as possible. A proposal for this is the UK classification, which forbids children to see horror movies. Every film have such a classification, but experts argue that the classification is too strict, which I can’t agree with. Finally the parents have the most important influence. They choose how long the children are allowed to be awake and what movies they are allowed to watch.

Review of “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”

The novel “The perks of being a wallflower” written by Stephen Chbosky describes a school year of a 15 year old boy named Charlie. He writes letters to an anonymous person about his fears and thoughts about friends, sex, love, alcohol, drugs and the conflict he has in the new high school. The plot takes place in the years 1991 and 1992 in an outskirt of Pittsburgh.

The book is a masterpiece of the author although there are many books describing the growing up of a teenager. The whole novel consists of letters Charlie is writing during the time of his first high school year. He can’t approach anyone and he has to go alone to the first year of high school. In the beginning he is in a depressing mood, because of the death of Charlie’s aunt Helen and his best friend Michael, but when Charlie meets his new friends and his love during the novel his mood turns better and better. Charlie describes his feelings so well in his letters that you can easily share them. At first Charlie does not take much interest in his environment because he is very shy and emotional, but during the novel and the time with Sam and Patrick he collects experiences with girls and how they act. I like the way Charlie acts even though he is a little bit too emotional and cries a lot. Finally the book is an outstanding example how stories about teenager and their problems should be written.

Charlie is a 15 year old teenager who makes his first experiences with alcohol, drugs, relationships and sex.

At the beginning of the novel Charlie’s best friend Michael commits suicide and now Charlie has to go to high school without any friend. He is a very shy and emotional guy, but upon the advice of his English teacher, who will be a very good friend of Charlie later, he gets to know some people at a football match. Charlie cottons on to Patrick and his step-sister Sam, although they are older than him. After a while he feels growing emotions for Sam but he can’t show her his feelings. Mary Elisabeth, whom he has met via the magazine “Punky Rocky”, begins to date Charlie and he makes his first experience with sex. During their one-sided relationship it is Mary Elisabeth talking all the time. Charlie is only the passive part. Patrick is his best male friend although he is gay. He helps Charlie in difficult situations in which he doesn’t know what to do, for instance when Charlie should kiss the prettiest girl in the room and he kissed Sam and not Mary Elisabeth. After such shocking situations Charlie always begins to cry. He doesn’t know what to do and then it’s good to have a friend like Patrick who has more experience with such things. As time goes by Charlie doesn’t meet his friends any more except Patrick. He falls into deep depressions and cries a lot, like every time when it gets too sentimental for him. The whole novel is an up and down of Charlie’s feelings.

Essey about violence in movies

Nowadays it’s normal to watch horror films even as a teenager. Many films are very cruel and not made for young people, although they are the vast majority of the audience. Should we ban movies, which show brutal scenes?

Supporters say that people don’t get violent because of such films, but we know that every action in our life influences the subconscious. Therefore we should look after what and how long we watch films. I mean it can’t be good for people to spend hours of hours in front of the television and watch bloody scenes. I cannot fancy that the films with cruel sequences don’t hebetate persons.

Surely, society is also violent without films like “Natural Born Killers” or “Kill Bill”, but it gives always individual cases in which psychos will imitate what they have seen in movies. Time and again you can read in the newspapers that people began to kill after they have seen horror films. I don’t no the exactly number of amok running people in the USA, but the number increases year by year and even one person is killed in the case of a horror film it is too much.

At times a brutal or cruel scene makes the film more thrilling, but the producers more and more go over the top and want to provoke and make the people intrigue with their massacres.

The horror films surely will not be banished by the film industry, but the age-limit should be more strictly anyway because Kids and teenagers are influenceable. An adult will discern good and evil, therefore it will not be so dangerous for him. But many children spend the afternoons without a control at home, so it is possible for them to watch horror movies. A blockade of the television or the DVD player is mostly difficult because the Kids know the technical systems quiet better than there parents.

Finally everybody must make his/her own decision, but the Kids have to be secured so I am against such brutal films and want to prohibit incidences.

The love between Ishmael and Hatsue

In the roman there are different faces of love between the American reporter Ishmael and Hatsue, a Japanese-american woman.

The first established relationship they had in school as they were kids. In this time they were good friends as far as Ishmael kissed Hatsue. In the first moment Hatsue was shocked, but she also had feelings to him. Although the Japanese culture forbade the contact between the American and the Japanese people, Hatsue and Ishmael met each other at the cedars, the secret place of them. That was also the place where they kissed the fist time. In the publicity, however, they act like exchanged people. They pretend like they didn’t know each other and that double life went on for a time.

In contrast to Ishmael Hatsue knew that their love couldn’t exist for longer time. Sooner or later Hatsue’s parents would discover the relationship and it would be a shame for the whole family. So Hatsue broke up and moved with her family to a camp for Japanese-american people due to the conflict between America and Japan.

After a while Hatsue got a new lover called Kabuo, but he wasn’t equal as Ishmael. They married and Hatsue wanted to forget Ishmael. On the contrary Ishmael developed hate against her and wrote letters with these feelings, but he never sent them away.

He had to go in the Second World War, lost an arm and became the reporter of San Piedro, where he saw Hatsue in a courtroom again. He stood in front of a great decision because he could exculpate Kabua, who was on trial for murder, with documents he found. For a long time he thought about him and probably a new chance with Hatsue. If he gave the important information to the jury they would reveal the truth, but if he kept them Kabuo would be arrested.

Finally he let his heart speak and decided to give the jury the documents, because he only wanted that Hatsue is happy.

Dear Tobias

I saw a picture of Norman Rockwell last week, which socked me. It depicts the contrast between black and white people. On the left side there are two white men and behind them a little black girl. On the right side you can also see two men with white skin. At the top you can find the graffiti “Niggers” on the wall. You can’t see the heads of the men, but they wear a band around their arm, on which it says Demphy US Marshall. The men in front are dressed in a brown and a white suit like the men behind. In the centre the wall is dirty, because of a smashed tomato, which lies on the street.

I think the artist creates a quite extreme mood. He wants to show us that black people can never be like white people, although their character is the same. The artist is trying to convey that this conflict will affect the next generation and the next. He seems to believe that the conflict will never end. But I disagree. Our generation can solve this problem, but at the moment it doesn’t looks like this. The racists are getting more and the solidarity in our time isn’t important at all. We have to accept the people how they are: black or white, Christian or Muslim, fat or thin. Only the character of the people is important

For me pictures like this ore definitely no art. Maybe the contrast between the red shovel and the dress of the woman looks good, but you still can’t consider it art. Art must be a masterpiece which not everybody can create. Something like Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Art has to be practised for a long time. You can’t make a simple brush stroke and call it art, but a well composed photo could be called art. With photos like this the museum in which it’s exhibited or the photographer only wants to provoke. Under no circumstances would I buy such a photo. The painter should be creative and shouldn’t produce rubbish like this photo.

To sum you can’t call simple pictures art, because the maker has to have skills to make masterpieces of art

Live after death

I think when we die everybody raises up to heaven, whatever he/she had done on earth. In my opinion there is no hell or a judgement day where we have to pay for our doings. Also bad people like murderer deserve to get up to god.

Now I’m not afraid of dieing, because my opinion and the religion help me to accept the death how he is: unavoidable. But in the older age I think I also will be afraid of dieing like the most people, because it’s normal that human beings fear foreign things like the life after death.

Finally nobody knows what’s after life. Not even the church or the religion can give us exactly answers about this topic. They only can establish theses, which satisfy our curiosity or fear of death.

Yesterday there was a newspaper report about the British art exhibition in New York. The row doesn’t wonder me, because the picture, which shows the Virgin Mary with elephant dung is a very risky combination. I don’t have anything against new art, but in some areas for example religion or sexuality it’s unjustifiable. Many actors believe that new art has to shock or they want to cause sensation with their brutal, erotic or abstract works. In my opinion every painter of these artworks wants to search for attention in the publicity with those shocking pictures. In your situation I would have made the same and wouldn’t allow the artist to exhibit his artwork.

Every time it will give problems with art that shocks like in your case and will get in conflict with the cultures. So stick on your opinion and be strict with scandalous painters.

Thornfield Burning

It’s like a normal day at Thornfield, where I am working for my master called Mr. Rochester. He treats his servants very well and I am one of them. But the past weeks he has retired and has become very nervous. I think it’s because of his lover Mrs. Eyre. She ran away a month ago because Mr. Rochester’s wife, a mad woman, was hidden in the house. If Jane Eyre doesn’t come back he will get more and more depressed.

I get up at 6 ‘clock as usually and bring my master a cup of tea like every day and then do my work outdoors in the garden. I am cutting the shrubs, when I suddenly see flames coming out of the second floor. I run in to warn the other servants, Adele, a previous pupil of Jane Eyre, Mrs. Fairfax the manager of the house, and surely Mr. Rochester, but the fire is already raging in the 1^st floor and at the top of the house. After a few minutes the heat has got unbearable and I go out to the others although I don’t know anything of my master, who is probably still in the house. Outside I see a strange woman on the roof, perhaps Mr. Rochester’s mad wife. What she is doing I ask myself. She runs to the end of the roof and jumps down, when she sees Mr. Rochester, who wants to save her. I can’t look at the woman or you better say what is left of her. Afterwards my master looses his bearings and faints a few seconds later. We take a ladder and bring him to the doctor as fast as possible, who saves his life, but can’t help his eyes, which are destroyed.

Finally I get fired, because Mr. Rochester only wants to have two servants with whom he lives in a house 30 miles away waiting for Jane Eyre.

London (SE). Bill Sikes, the most proble murderer of nancy, died in front of manyinhabitans after a persecution of the police. An inviolent person called Fagin was arersted and interragated. The missing boy oliver was also saved of after the abduction by the leader of a pickpocket gang.

Yesterday at 12 o'clock the withe dog of Bill Sikes brought the police to the hidding place, where over ten children were hidding. This children were allso members of the pickpocket gang. As the police arrived, Bill took Oliver and he escaped with him. The police and a crowed of people followed him, until he had an accident after a escape over the roofes of the houses. At teh accident he hanged himself. It was a succesfull night for the police, because they also cought Fagin, the leader of the pickpocket gang.
Oliver, who was a few weeks in captivity brought back to his stepfather Mr. Brownlow, who we interviewed: "I'm so glad that Oliver is saved. I'm sure, now that Oliver lives at me, he will have the best live that I can give him. He is like a son for me, which i've never got."
Now Oliver lives in the big house of his stepfather Mr. Brownlow, who is very rich. Oliver met Mr. Brownlow after he was charged to be member pickpocket gang, but Mr. Brownlow knew that it was not Oliver who robbed him, that it was another boy. So he came the first time to Mr. Brownlow, but then he was cought again by fagin and the pickpocket gang.
After a trial in London Fagin was arrestet for 15 years. The judges orderes that, because Fagin leaded the pickpocket gang for over 25 years. Oliver visited him after a few days.

At the end of the 19^th century I am interviewing a worker of the biggest company in London.

I: Hello, I am a reporter of The New York Times and I am writing an article about the mass production of steel in this company. What about the human conditions at the work?

G: Hello! In my opinion we work too hard and too long. The attendants force us to work 12-14 hours a day for a few pounds. On one hand we shouldn’t work under these circumstances and I’m not the only one who thinks so, but on the other hand we need the money to buy at least a little bit bread and maybe some coffee.

I: Why don’t you rebel against these cruel, mostly rich people! Perhaps you could reach goals, for example getting more food or less work time.

G: No. That’s completely rubbish. There is no possibility to demonstrate in the street or in underground groups. As a result we would loose our urgently needed jobs. And that would be fatal, because most workers have no special abilities or education. A demonstration also could be punished with a trial or a death penalty.

I: What about the human rights? Are they of no worth here?

G: No! The employers don’t care about us! Most workers die between 30 and 40 years of age. Our children begin to word with 7 years and we have to sleep in a dump hole. No! Here are no human rights!
